NGC 4206, 4216 and 4222 (Trio in Vir)

 

 


This nice trio of edge-on spiral galaxies (NGC 4222, 4216 and 4206) is located near the center of the Virgo Galaxy cluster, some 50 millon light years from Earth.
 Central NGC 4216 is one of the largest and brightest spiral galaxies of the Virgo Cluster (brighter than the Andromeda Galaxy). Also many smaller galaxies in the background.

Interesting thing: At the web page of Bob Franke (bf-astro.com) I have found that next to the galaxy NGC 4206 (and also on my picture) there is a 21.7 magnitude quasar with a redshift of z = 3.716 (light travel-time = 11.626 billion years):
